Frequently Asked Questions

Pounce Play and Stay is a cage-free hotel exclusively for felines. We are different than most boarding facilities in that we are a community cat hotel. In addition to having their own private Suite, cats have the opportunity to spend time in our play lounge, which is shared by other hotel guests. We want you to take your trip knowing your loved one is getting lots of attention and being cared for. We will send regular updates, keeping you informed (and entertained) of their time with us.

Many people do. But that is a myth. While cats may be a bit pickier about how they are transported and acclimated into a space, they need other cat pals for a healthy wholeness. We experience them playing, talking, sharing, relaxing and simply BEING with each other. It is so rewarding to see a cat that has not had any socialization come into Pounce and, with the right kind of acclimation, introduction and attention, blossom into a happier, more well rounded cat.

This is probably our most common question. We’ve found that a majority of cat parents do not know if their cat is good with other cats or not. Before we agree to a stay, we have a conversation that dives into behavioral indicators. And, while we offer a community (shared) space, we don’t push cats to do things they are not comfortable with. We go your cats speed with a proven methodology for success in socialization.

However, if you know for certain that your cat doesn’t like other cats or is traumatized by other cats this may not be a good fit. Cats that are indifferent or haven’t had much experience with other cats usually do well.

All day long! Since we have full immersion with our community experience, the cats at Pounce are always getting attention. We do not come in and out of the hotel just for necessities; our staff is here all day ready to give their full attention to needs AND DESIRES of your cat!

We provide regular text updates with pictures letting you know how they are doing and how they get along with others. It’s fun to get video of a couple cats playing. Always a pleasant update to parents! Updates provided at no additonal charge.

We don’t want any upset tummies so you supplying the food they are used to eating is a necessity. Should they run out during their stay, we do have a variety of high quality wet and dry food for purchase at $5.00/day. Cats with food allergies will definitely need their own food and, should they run out we will make a store run a fee, along with the price of the food.

While we keep a good eye on food stealers, being a community space, they will sometimes get into another cat’s food so if the allergy is life threatening this is not the right environment for them.

We supply beds, blankets, bowls, litter, litter boxes, and toys of all varieties. If your kitty has a favorite item or is particular and will only use their own, please feel free to bring it. You can bring something soft with your scent for them to put in their suite.

Please check out our health requirement page dedicated to answering the question.  https://pounceplayandstay.com/requirements/

We will administer standard medications (pills, liquid) at no extra cost; however we are not veterinarians or veterinary tech’s. Cats in our non-medical hotel must be in good/normal aged health and successfully managed by their meds. If cats decline in our care, we will seek assistance from a Veterinarian.

We want to hear all about your kitty and see how they will adapt to our communal environment.  You can see our video and get a good “feel” for the atmosphere, which can come in handy when speaking directly with one of our professional cat caregivers at the hotel.  You can fill out the reservation form for a call back or call us directly at 503-756-1273.

Yes and No. We learned something during the pandemic when we closed the facility to tours…… many of the shyer cats LOVED it. Makes sense. Even the not so shy cats liked the lack of interruption of someone new coming in. We noticed a calmer cat community overall.  We work at keeping a quiet, low traffic environment. So, we do window tours, which allows for visibility into the hotel from a few different angles without a disruption to the our guests.

We allow check-ins and outs 7 days a week between 8am and 4pm. We do want to know the approximate time as that allows us to ensure his suite is prepared.

We love kittens! They adjust in so quickly and play so hard! Like all of our other guests, they need to be fully vaccinated. Since vets must wait until about 4 months of age before administering the rabies vaccine that is the youngest age we get to have in.

Allow your cat to become familiarized with the carrier ahead of time. As early as you can before your trip, bring the carrier out into your cat’s living space. Add their favorite bed, reward them with attention and treats when they are near or even enter the carrier. Allow your kitty to enter and exit freely to help soften any negative association they may have.

Carrier size and comfort. Your cat should be able to stand, turn around and lounge. Always place something down for traction instead of the slick bottom. Always secure the carrier within your vehicle.

Travel on a light tummy. Consider holding off on a big meal, an upset tummy can exacerbate the issue.

Be aware of the noise and temp in the vehicle. Traffic sounds, horns, blaring music may worsen their fear. Light classical and other “cat approved music” has been scientifically shown to lower stress levels. Also make sure your vehicles interior temperature is appropriate and comfortable.

Consider calming products and supplements. There are many available on the market. We suggest synthetic pheromones (FeliWay, Comfort Zone, Relaxivet). These formulas replicate the ones a mother naturally produces to soothe her kittens. Oral behavior supplements (VetriScience Composure, ThunderWonders, Vetquinol Zyklene). Many of these supplements are comprised of all-natural ingredients. We suggest consulting with your cats veterinarian for the most appropriate supplement.
